March 12, 2003: Early Season Predictions
Here are my first set of predictions for the upcoming year. I won't get into specific wins and losses but I
will let you know where I expect teams to finish in their division as well as playoff predictions
National League
East:
Atlanta Braves: They replaced most of they parts they lost and should win again
Philadelphia Phillies: Any lineup with Thome, Abreu, and Burrell will be tough
New York Mets: A payroll that high better win some games
Montreal / Puerto Rico Expos: They get to see what it is like to play in front of a crowd again. Vlad is the
man.
Florida Marlins: Decent young pitching but they need some bats and leadership
Central:
Houston Astros: Biggio, Bagwell, Berkman, and Kent combined with Oswalt and Miller will win games
St. Louis Cardinals: Very close to the Astros but still missing a few pieces
Cincinnati Reds: Junior is back this year and will hit over 50 bombs
Chicago Cubs: Might sniff .500 this year
Pittsburgh Pirates: Brian Giles is one of the most underrated players in the game
Milwaukee Brewers: There best player gets hurt by his cap... nothing else to say
West:
Arizona Diamondbacks: Johnson and Schilling seem to be getting stronger as they get older
San Francisco Giants: Barry will carry this team once again.
Los Angeles Dodgers: Need more firepower in the infield
Colorado Rockies: Helton and Walker will continue to put up great numbers at Coors
San Diego Padres: The Nevin injury really hurts
American League
East:
New York Yankees: Steinbrenner keeps reloading the cupboard and draining the bank account
Boston Red Sox: A couple pitchers away from challenging the Yanks
Tampa Bay Devil Rays: Still not at .500 but Pinella will be fun to watch this year
Toronto Blue Jays: Is Delgado the real thing? He will need to be this year.
Baltimore Orioles: Terrible farm system and no talent at the Major League level
Central
Chicago White Sox: Ordonez is a stud. Thomas needs to have a good year if they want to win
Minnesota Twins: Need a bit more pop in the lineup. Great defense and speed.
Cleveland Indians: Some decent young talent in the outfield
Kansas City Royals: Are they a farm team for the rest of the league?
Detroit Tigers: Can you name more than 5 players on this team? I couldn't
West:
Seattle Mariners: Cirillo and Cameron will need to pick it up and a 4th starter needs to emerge
Oakland Athletics: One of the big three (Zito, Hudson, and Mulder) will go down with an injury
Texas Rangers: Alex is the best player in the game
Anaheim Angles: The rally monkey is carrying the Ebola virus
Playoffs:

St. Louis wins the pennant
American League:
New York Yankees
